Mother's Day Out Assistant Teacher

Position Description

Responsible for the assisting the classroom Lead Teacher with the general supervision and management of a class of preschool children; planning and executing the educational program in accordance with the purpose of Harris Creek Mother’s Day Out.

Organizational Status

This position reports to the classroom Lead Teacher, and is supervised by the Children’s Minister and Children’s Ministry Associate.

Working Relationships

Works directly with the Children’s Minister, Children’s Ministry Associate, Mother’s Day Out program Lead Teachers, and Mother’s Day Out program Assistant Teachers.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Arrive 15 minutes before program begins to make sure classroom is prepared and to greet children as they arrive.
  • Assist in planning and implementing the daily educational program for classroom, which includes lesson plans.
  • Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest areas, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
  • Assist in implementing appropriate early childhood education experiences.
  • Help Lead Teacher to supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of children enrolled in the program.
  • Assist Lead Teacher in supervising the room to ensure the safety of everyone.
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect.
  • Provide positive guidance and instruction to all children through a calm, respectful and friendly approach.
  • Help with general housekeeping tasks.
  • Help maintain a neat and organized classroom to ensure the safety of everyone.
  • Help children establish good habits of personal hygiene; change diapers and assist with toilet training.
  • Report to Lead Teacher any problem which may occur with children.
  • Observe, record, and report (if necessary) the behavior of individual children in the classroom as assigned.
  • Attend all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences.
  • Keep parents informed of topics/themes being studied, special events, etc.
  • Other tasks as requested.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A passionate love for the Lord and a desire to serve in church ministries
  • Individual must possess a minimum of 1 year of experience in teaching preschool-age children
  • A functional and applied knowledge of childhood education and development
  • Ability to develop rapport with children, parents, and co-workers
