James TippitPastor
James was born and raised in Garland Texas. He graduated the University of North Texas with a B.S. in Kinesiology in 1994. After marrying his college sweetheart Teri (a Baylor 1991 graduate), he began Truett Seminary in the Spring of 1995. He became youth minister at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Robinson that same year and graduated from Truett in 1999 with his Master’s of Divinity in Theology. After graduation He and Teri moved to Houston where James eventually ended up on staff at Tallowood Baptist Church. While at Tallowood, James completed another Master’s Degree at the university of Saint Andrews in Scotland. They have three children; one boy and two girls. Dylan was born in 1999, Darby was born in 2004 and Addison was born in 2005. (Yes the girls are awfully close together!). James and Teri love to hike in the mountains and generally spend their time playing with the kids. James loves cycling and through the prompting of some zealous church members James began training for his first triathlon in 2007. (Providence intervened and torrential rain prevented that first race. God knows James doesn’t swim well!) Other interests include books, coffee, and conversation. James and Teri hope to bring the love of Christ to their community, through the people of Harris Creek Baptist Church. David BrittExecutive Pastor
David was born and raised in a Baptist Minister's home in Missouri. He and wife Jill have two wonderful children; Kaitlin, a Senior Chinese & Spanish major at Hamilton College, Clinton, New York and Richard, a Freshman Classics & Religion major at Baylor. After many years of corporate management with The Quaker Oats Co. and ConAgra Foods, David and Jill purchased a small boutique hotel/fine dining restaurant in Washington State and started a small business consulting company. Prior to joining the great folks at Harris Creek, David was the Executive Director and COO of East Cooper Baptist Church and Palmetto Christian Academy in Mt. Pleasant, SC. He was also an adjunct business professor at Charleston Southern University. David holds a BS in Business Administration – Finance from Southeast Missouri State University and an MBA from Charleston Southern University. Jill has a BS in Business Administration from Fairmont State University, WV and currently operates the Quality Assurance portion of Inn Connections, LLC – their consulting company. David is an avid (some may say rabid) traveler and inquisitive reader. He enjoys watching other staff members cycle, train for triathlons and work out while he searches for the perfect coffee bean – bold, shade grown and freshly roasted. Both David and Jill are very excited about the mission of HCBC and are excited to be a part of this great fellowship of believers. Barbra SmithMinister to Children
Barbra was born and raised in Marble Falls, Texas, the daughter of a Baptist minister and elementary school teacher. She graduated from Baylor University in 1988. She and her husband, Steve, were married in 1990 and moved to Washington D.C. for several years before settling back in Waco in 1995. She became Children’s Minister at Harris Creek in October, 2004. Steve and Barbra have three boys, Caleb (born in 1994), Nathan (born in 1997), and Zachary (born in 2000). When she’s not watching her boys play sports or playing video games with them, Barbra enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, and visiting her parents, who now live in the mountains of Colorado. Barbra’s desire is to see children transformed into spiritual champions and to see them know, love, and serve God. She is excited to be a part of what God is doing at Harris Creek!
