deacon additions
Twelve months ago, we introduced our Deacons to help us care for our Life Groups alongside our elders and pastoral staff. Based on the biblical explanation of a Deacon in 1 Timothy 3:8-12, we know that scripture explains less of the what a Deacon does, and more of who a Deacon is to be as a follower of Jesus. In Acts 6 (the chapter many believe to be the first instance of Deacons being deployed), we see that Deacons serve and care for the body on a practical, personal level.
The staff and Elders of Harris Creek have identified 4 more people who fit the biblical qualifications of a Deacon as outlined in Acts 6:1-7, 1 Timothy 3:8-13 and Romans 16:1. We’ve discussed this role with them, asked specific and intentional questions to them, and asked them to serve the body in this way.

The last part of the process is a two-week window giving our Covenant Members an opportunity to bring forward any questions or concerns regarding a candidate’s qualifications or ability to serve in this biblical office. If you have questions or concerns, we ask you to first go to them directly (Matthew 18:15). If you still have concerns, we ask that you email lifegroups@harriscreek.org for next steps beyond your initial meeting.
